Tasmanian MPs Remain Under Investigation by Integrity Commission

For the past couple of years, the Integrity Commission has been looking into allegations against Tasmanian MPs related to conflicts of interest and misuse of information. However, details about the MPs involved, the status of the investigations, and when they might be concluded have not been made public.

Despite the Integrity Commission's efforts to maintain confidentiality and fairness in their investigations, there has been criticism from some quarters about the lack of transparency surrounding the cases. Some politicians, such as those from the Liberal Party, have been urged to confirm whether members of their team are part of the investigations but have refrained from doing so.

The Integrity Commission has faced scrutiny not only for the ongoing Loyotea investigation but also for other cases, like the Olegas and Cuvier investigations, which have been dragging on for years without resolution. Critics, including the Centre for Public Integrity director, Geoffrey Watson, have questioned the effectiveness of the Integrity Commission, citing the lengthy timeframes for investigations as a sign of inefficiency. Watson called for more resources and dynamic leadership to enhance the effectiveness of the Integrity Commission.
