Jitu Patwari Defends Remarks, Says Opposition's Role is to Question Government

Jitu Patwari Defends His Actions After Facing Backlash from BJP

Jitu Patwari, the Madhya Pradesh Congress chief, has defended his recent remarks that sparked backlash from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He stated that his role as the opposition is to ask questions and hold the government accountable.

Patwari's comments came after three FIRs were registered against him in five days. He claimed that the FIRs were filed in retaliation to his questions regarding the government's promises to farmers and the price of gas cylinders.

"The new CM Mohan Yadav got three FIRs registered against me in five days. I went to Bhind and an FIR was registered. A girl was raped, and when I met her family, an FIR was registered against me. You said that farmers will be given the right price, gas cylinder will be given at Rs 450. If I don't ask you questions what is the use of an opposition?" Patwari questioned.

One of the FIRs against Patwari stemmed from his alleged derogatory remarks against former Congress MLA Imarti Devi, who joined the BJP in 2020. Another case was registered for his verbal attack on BSP candidate Devashish Jarariya during a rally.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia condemned Patwari's remarks, stating that they reflected the Congress' disrespect towards women. He accused the Congress of using and discarding people, including women, workers, tribals, and Dalits.

Despite the criticism, Patwari maintained that he would continue to raise questions and hold the government accountable. He emphasized that it was his duty as the opposition to ensure transparency and answerability.
