## US Nuclear Fuel Arrives at Kozloduy Power Plant, Diversifying Bulgaria's Energy Sources

## First Shipment of US Nuclear Fuel Arrives in Bulgaria

The Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant in Bulgaria has received its first delivery of fresh nuclear fuel from the US company Westinghouse. This marks a significant step in the country's efforts to diversify its nuclear fuel sources.

Caretaker Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov and caretaker Premier Dimitar Glavchev visited the Kozloduy NPP to witness the arrival of the fuel. The initial shipment consists of 43 cassettes, which will be loaded into Unit 5 of the power plant.

"This is a long process that started years ago, but the real steps were taken in 2019," said Minister Malinov. He emphasized that this delivery represents a true diversification of nuclear fuel for Unit 5. Additionally, a contract has been signed with the French company Framatome to diversify the fuel for Unit 6.

The Nuclear Regulatory Agency has already issued a license for the storage of the fuel, and the license for its use is expected to be issued soon. This development paves the way for the safe and efficient utilization of the new fuel source.
